The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for all second-cycle institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year. The calendar outlines the reporting dates, vacations, and examination periods for both single-track and transitional schools.
Reporting Dates and Key Highlights
The calendar confirms that the academic year will begin with first-year students (SHS 1) reporting on October 18, 2025, for both single-track and transitional schools.
Here are some key dates and details from the newly released calendar:
Single-Track Schools
SHS 1 and 2: Reopening is set for October 18, 2025. They will break for Christmas on December 20, 2025, and resume on January 4, 2026. Their first term vacation will run from February 28, 2026, to May 3, 2026, with the second term commencing on May 4, 2026.
SHS 3: Students will reopen earlier on October 11, 2025. They will have a Christmas break from December 20, 2025, to January 4, 2026.
Transitional Schools
SHS 1: Reopening on October 18, 2025, with a Christmas break from December 20, 2025, to January 31, 2026. The second term begins on March 16, 2026.
SHS 2: Students will reopen on October 27, 2025.
SHS 3: Reopening is set for October 27, 2025, with their first term ending on February 13, 2026.
WASSCE Dates and Other Footnotes
The cademic calendar notes that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is scheduled to take place from April 20 to June 20, 2026.
The GES directive, signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, urges all Regional Directors to disseminate the calendar to heads of schools under their jurisdiction.
