The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the approved academic calendar for the 2026/2027 academic year. This schedule applies to all Basic Schools, including Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools (JHS) across the country.
To ensure a smooth academic year, all stakeholdersincluding school heads, teachers, and parents are encouraged to take note of the following key dates:
First Term (15 Weeks)
Reopening: 8th September, 2026
Mid-Term Break: 5th & 6th November, 2026
Closing Date: 17th December, 2026
Vacation: 18th December, 2026 – 4th January, 2027
Second Term (12 Weeks)
Reopening: 5th January, 2027
Closing Date: 25th March, 2027
Vacation: 26th March, 2027 – 19th April, 2027
Third Term (14 Weeks)
Reopening: 20th April, 2027
Closing Date: 22nd July, 2027
Vacation: Begins 23rd July, 2027 (End of Academic Year)
2027 BECE Schedule
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is a critical milestone for JHS students. For the 2026/2027 academic year, the GES has scheduled the BECE to take place from Wednesday, 5th May to 12th May, 2027.

All statutory public holidays will be observed as they fall within the academic terms.
Mid-Term Breaks: In addition to the specific dates listed for the first term, a two-day mid-term break will be observed in every term.
