The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released its official list of approved subject areas and conditions for Study Leave With Pay for the 2026 academic year. Eligibility conditions:
- Minimum 3 years of satisfactory service (bonded for years served + 1 year after)
- Staff in deprived areas: 2 years may qualify
- Non-professional graduate teachers: 1 year minimum for PGDE courses
- Returning from secondment: 2 years minimum
- Re-appointed/re-engaged staff: 5 years minimum
- If you don't qualify in year one, you can't reapply in year two — must take Study Leave Without Pay instead
- Must have at least 2 years left to serve after the course (age/course-length rule: e.g., 55+ can't take a 4+ year course but can do 1–2 year courses)
- Requires good conduct/performance and supervisor recommendation
Application process:
- Get forms from Metro/Municipal/District Education Offices
- Submit 4 copies with certified certificates
- Route through Regional Director via District Director/Head of Institution
- Deadline for qualified beneficiary lists to reach HRMD at GES HQ: Friday, 30th October 2026
