National Service Scheme (NSS) Opens Registration for Defaulters and Private Candidates for 2023/2024 Service Year

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has announced the opening of registration for defaulters and private candidates for the 2023/2024 service year. This is an opportunity for Ghanaian citizens who missed the chance to do their national service in previous years after completing tertiary education. The NSS has emphasized that the National Service Act (Act 426) of 1980 makes it mandatory for Ghanaian citizens 18 years and above who have completed accredited tertiary institutions to undertake national service to the State.

Who is Eligible to Register?

The registration is open to several categories of individuals. These include previous applicants who started but could not complete their national service, private applicants who are certified by accredited institutions, and Ghanaian nationals who have studied abroad.

How to Register?

Eligible applicants are required to submit the following documents:

A letter requesting a PIN code or reactivation of PIN code

A certified true copy of School Certificate or Transcript

Evidence of Deferment Letter (if applicable)

An Attestation/Introductory Letter from the institution attended

A copy of Ghana Card

A copy of Student ID with the original copy for checks

For foreign students, a proof of study abroad is also required.

All eligible candidates are required to submit their registration documents to any of the Regional Offices of the Scheme or to the NSS Headquarters in Accra from Wednesday, 1st March, 2023 to Friday, June 30, 2023. It is important to note that there will be no extension of the registration deadline.

Registration Fees

The NSS has set a registration fee of GH₵40 for defaulters and GH₵100 for private candidates. This fee is non-refundable, and applicants are advised to ensure that all required documents are complete and accurate before submission.

Conclusion

The NSS has opened registration for defaulters and private candidates for the 2023/2024 service year. This is an opportunity for eligible Ghanaian citizens who have not been able to participate in the program to do so and gain the benefits of national service. The NSS urges all eligible applicants to ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria and submit all required documents before the registration deadline.
