GES Announces Date for Easter Break as well as Important Information for Students, Guardians and Heads of Schools

It’s that time of the year again when schools take a break for the Easter holidays. The management of second cycle schools in Ghana has announced that all students will go on break starting from Thursday, April 6, 2023. However, there is an important caveat that parents and students must note.

For Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS), students in SHS 2 and SHS 3 will break for the Easter holidays on April 6, 2023, while SHS 1 students will continue with their academic activities. This means that SHS 1 students will not participate in the Easter holidays break and will continue with their regular academic schedules.

The management of second cycle schools running the Transitional Calendar has also announced that SHS 1 students are to continue with their vacation until their scheduled re-opening in June 2023. Therefore, SHS 1 students are not expected to resume academic activities after the Easter break, but to continue their vacation until June.

This announcement was made by Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, the Deputy Director-General (Q&A) for the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, in a letter addressed to the Regional Directors of Education in Ghana.

It is important for parents and guardians to take note of this information and ensure that their children in SHS 1 are aware of the changes in the academic calendar. Heads of Second Cycle Schools are also advised to comply accordingly to facilitate a smooth running of the academic year.

The Easter holidays are a time for rest and rejuvenation, as well as spiritual reflection for Christians. It is an opportunity for students to spend quality time with their families, friends, and loved ones. However, it is important to balance rest and relaxation with academic activities to ensure academic success.

In conclusion, parents, students, and Heads of Second Cycle Schools are urged to take note of this important information and comply accordingly. We wish all students a happy and restful Easter holiday and urge them to return to school refreshed and ready to continue their academic journey.
