Mid Semester Break for Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS)

In a recent announcement, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has reminded all Heads of Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools (SHS/SHTS) about the upcoming Mid Semester Break from 2nd to 9th June, 2023. This communication aims to ensure that all relevant parties are well-informed about the break and its implications

Flexibility for Form 3 Students:

While the break should be observed by all students, Heads of schools have the discretion to allow Form 3 students to remain in school for additional preparation towards the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This provision aims to support students in their academic pursuits and ensure they are adequately prepared for this crucial examination. It is commendable that schools are encouraged to provide this option to students who are determined to excel in their WASSCE.

Accommodation for Students:

Heads of schools are also reminded to accommodate students who may wish to remain on campus during the mid-semester break. This provision ensures that students who may face challenges in finding alternative accommodation or have specific reasons to remain on campus are adequately catered for. It is crucial for school authorities to provide a safe and conducive environment for these students and ensure that their needs are met during this period.

Responsibility of Regional Directors of Education:

Regional Directors of Education play a crucial role in disseminating this information to all Heads of SHS/SHTS within their jurisdiction. They are responsible for ensuring that schools are well-informed about the mid-semester break and its accompanying guidelines. By proactively sharing this information, Regional Directors of Education contribute to the smooth implementation of the break and facilitate effective communication between the Ghana Education Service and schools.
