Management of the Ghana Education Service says it commiserates with the families of the eight (8) pupils who met their untimely death while crossing from Atigagorme to attend school at Wayokope in the Sene East in the Bono East Region.

On Tuesday, 24th January 2023, the eight (8) were part of twenty pupils who got stranded at the river bank at Atigagorme while on their way to school.

A fisherman on his private boat decided to assist the children by carrying them across. Unfortunately, the boat capsized, and eight got drowned.

GES in a statement posted on its official Facebook handle says it is distraught by this unfortunate incident and assure the families of the necessary Support.

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Eric Nkansah, has already tasked the Regional and District Directors of Education to visit the bereaved families whiles preparations are going are ongoing to immediately provide counseling services to the school in this moment of grief.
