National Teaching Council (NTC) Implements New Fees and Charges for Teachers’ Registration, Licensing Card and Renewal

In a recent development, the National Teaching Council (NTC) has announced the full implementation of fees and charges for teachers, as approved by the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana. This change, which comes into effect from the year 2023, has significant implications for educators across the nation.

According to the Registrar of NTC, Christian Addai-Poku, (Ph.D), in a release dated, September 26, 2023, The National Teaching Council is authorised by the fee and charges (Miscellaneous provisions) Act 2022 to levy its clientele to support its regulatory functions.

The NTC, as the regulatory body for teachers, is authorized to levy fees and charges on its clientele to support its vital regulatory functions. This move aims to strengthen the education sector, improve the quality of teaching, and ensure that teachers meet the necessary standards.
Here are the key fees and charges that teachers are now required to adhere to:

1. Licence Card: GH¢200.00
Starting this year, teachers are obligated to pay GH¢200.00 for their teaching licence card. This card serves as a crucial proof of a teacher's professional credentials and authorization to teach in Ghana.

2. Renewal of Licence: GH¢100.00
For those who already possess a teaching licence, there is a renewal fee of GH¢100.00. This renewal process ensures that teachers continue to meet the required standards and uphold their professional development.

3. Registration of Teachers: GH¢50.00
The registration of teachers incurs a fee of GH¢50.00.
It is imperative for teachers and educational stakeholders to be aware of these changes and their implications. The implementation of these fees and charges will help the NTC fulfill its regulatory responsibilities effectively and contribute to the overall improvement of education quality in Ghana.

The NTC's decision to introduce these fees and charges aligns with its commitment to enhancing the teaching profession's standards and ensuring that educators are adequately supported in their roles. These fees will contribute to the development of better teacher training programs, professional development opportunities, and the overall enhancement of the education sector.

Teachers, educational institutions, and relevant stakeholders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these new fees and charges and ensure compliance with the regulations set forth by the NTC. By doing so, educators can continue to play their crucial role in shaping the future of Ghana's students and contributing to the nation's educational excellence.
