Speaking to journalists during a visit to an exam center at Accra High School on Friday, July 18, Minister Iddrisu disclosed that over 37,000 candidates are participating in the ongoing examination. This figure includes approximately 5,000 resit candidates, with a significant majority of the 32,000 new participants having completed their training before the current administration came into office. He emphasized that this cohort, in particular, deserves another chance to pass.
"I trust that the National Teachers Council will, before the end of August as was announced, give this cohort another opportunity for a resit," the Minister stated.
Mr. Iddrisu reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to enhancing the professional skills and capacity of teachers. He highlighted that "continuous assessment and development is an integral part even of their collective bargaining agreement," underscoring the importance of building robust professional capabilities among educators.
Acknowledging the immense psychological pressure associated with examinations, the Minister offered words of encouragement to the candidates. "There are persons who are never emotionally and psychologically prepared or ready for exams, but they can be the most brilliant of students. So ours is to encourage them, to wish them well," he remarked.
This call for a final resit aligns with the government's broader educational reforms, which aim to eventually phase out the standalone teacher licensure examination.
