GES to Probe JoyNews BECE Malpractice Report, Vows to Punish All Involved

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that it is taking immediate steps to investigate allegations of examination malpractice during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in some schools, following reports by JoyNews TV.

In a statement, GES management said it has taken note of media reports, particularly a JoyNews documentary that highlights alleged cheating incidents. The Service has requested a copy of the full documentary and its original transcripts to enable a thorough review and a full-scale investigation into the matter.

“Management reiterates its absolute aversion to examination malpractice. Cheating undermines the integrity of our education system, destroys meritocracy, and produces graduates who lack the competencies required for national development,” the statement emphasized.

The GES further stated that it has the full support of the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and the GES Council, to take decisive action. Any staff member—whether teaching or non-teaching—found complicit in aiding or abetting examination malpractice will face severe disciplinary action in line with established laws and Service regulations.

The Service assured all stakeholders of its commitment to safeguarding the credibility of examinations in Ghana. It also pledged to work closely with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), National Security, and other law enforcement agencies to address the issue and restore public confidence in the education system.
