GES/NTC Announces Fast-Track PGDE for Non-Professional Teachers

Reference is being made to a letter from the National Teaching Council dated 24th October, 2025, with Reference No. NTC/LIC/RT/356/2/85.

Management writes to inform you that the National Teaching Council (NTC) is mandated by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023) to regulate the teaching profession. As part of the regulation, the NTC began issuing licenses to all professional teachers in 2021.

The license issued has expired, and the NTC has begun the issuance of subject-based licenses to all teachers nationwide. This exercise is ongoing without any form of licensing for non-professional teachers.

Section 67(1) of the Act states that:

"A person shall not practice as a teacher unless the person is registered as a teacher in accordance with this Act".

Therefore, all teachers are required to be registered and licensed by the NTC to enable them to practice.

Per the letter, the NTC wishes to support all non-professional teachers to be upgraded to professional status to enable them to register and issue them with the appropriate license.

The NTC has therefore collaborated with four Universities, namely, UCC, UEW, AAMUSTED, and UDS, to run a fast-track Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) for all non-professional teachers in public and private schools at a subsidized fee of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢5000.00) for the entire programme.

The programme will begin on the next school vacation and is likely to be run between sixteen (16) and twenty (20) weeks.

Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL) has agreed to provide some financial support for applicants who are below the age of 35.

Non-professional teachers are kindly requested to register through this link https://forms.gle/A5emi8xdzzm5NGY7.

The deadline for registration for the programme is 30th November 2025. Further details about the programme will be communicated in due course.
